Live and Abide Outside

Slay the Weather, Visit a Beach

Top 10 reasons not to wait for sun to have fun

Sometimes I need to remember that circumstances don’t have to be perfect to still be magnificent. The older I get, the more I realize that waiting for summer days to arrive wastes many perfect winter days that have their own distinct appeal.

The famous poet and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson would no doubt agree. He gifted the world with so many masterful insights into what makes the human experience meaningful which continue to be relevant today. Dovetailing off Emerson’s words, I’d like to share a few photos from my most recent trip to Bastendorff and Sunset beaches near Coos Bay, Oregon. This was an overcast day with rain teasing at an appearance every few minutes. But it was still a day well spent, where I ended up getting a walk in the sand, wind-blown hair, and a smiling face to bring home.

This top 10 list is especially for those who may need encouragement to grab a jacket, a friend, and make a beach trip rain or shine. Remember to stay aware of the tides, keep your distance from turbulent waves, stay off logs in the water, but get out and breathe the air.

I have lots of fun being active outdoors, learning about nature, trying to master skills like paddle boarding, and using technology to keep current and connected where ever I end up. I also enjoy helping to manage our farm, caring for my daughter, extended family, and learning about how to manage chickens, ducks, goats, cats, dogs and the occasional visiting wildlife.
